Toscane Thieffry

Working between Brussels and Paris, Toscane is a multidisciplinary artist whose practice combines photography, intsallation and sculpture. Through entirely fabricated worlds, she reveals personal stories that she transforms into collective narratives, particularly around the themes of childhood, love, mental health and the body.

In this series and in her latest work, Toscane Thieffry is interested in the question of the internalisation of ‘diet culture’ and all the notions that flow from it. She examines the impact of physical and cultural diktats, the relationship between the body and food, with a critical eye on patriarchy and capitalism. In an almost counterpoint to the aesthetic of advertising, this series of portraits features young girls affected by food obsessions. What happens when food follows you around all the time? When it changes the way you perceive your own body and environment? How can we envisage a vision of consumption that is less standardised and controlled?
